ABSTRACT
Industry studies and researches related to the development and sustainability of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Davao Region would require an overview of the situation of the business enterprises. This study was conducted to classify business entities in Davao City, Tagum City, Digos City, Panabo City and Mati City in terms of industry classification and size. The top 20 business entities per industry classification and per city along with the top five industries based on the number of entities were identified.
The study used secondary source of data from the five business bureaus and used the list of registered entities as of 2013. The study made use of descriptive statistics like the frequencies percentages, and charts.
The study showed that there are 33,047 Enterprises in Davao City, 7,109 Enterprises in Tagum City, 3,328 in Digos City, 4,170 Enterprises in Panabo City, and 1,240 Enterprises in Mati City. The results of the study revealed that the Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles industry ranked first in all the five cities. Accommodation and Food Service Activities ranked second. The Real Estate Activities ranked third for Davao, Tagum, Digos and Panabo but only fourth in Mati. The Manufacturing Industry ranked fourth in Davao, Tagum and Digos while fifth in Panabo and Mati. The Administrative and Support Services Activities ranked fifth in Davao. The Financial and Insurance Activities ranked fifth in Tagum and Digos, fourth in Panabo and third in Mati. Overall, the showed that the various industries are dominated by micro and small enterprises.
