Center for Renewable Energy and Alternative Technologies (CREATE)

Based     on the recommendations of the University Council for Research (URC), the University President has approved the establishment of the Center for Renewable Energy and Alternative Technologies. The Center will engage in the development of energy technologies that utilizes energy sources that are renewable in nature.  It will conduct advocacy activities that would champion the   use of renewable energy  and energy conservation.  It will  participate in efforts that would led to policy reforms in support of optimal utilization of energy without sacrificing the people, the environment and the economy.

The CREATE, attached to the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) shall operate effective immediately.

De-loading Policy for Head of University Institutes/ Centers and the University Research Council

Based     on the recommendation of the University Council for Research (URC), the University President has approved the proposal that grants the Head/Executive Director/Coordinator of the University Institutes/Center and the Chair of the University Research Council six unit de-load (6-unit) for every semester renewable for the subsequent semesters within the entire duration of the incumbency in office.

Approval for this academic de-load must be secured from the academic authorities where the concerned personnel is aligned. It shall be observed though, that in the application of this policy, the concerned personnel is not left with a zero load and periodic review be made for proper compliance.

Appointment of Atty. Pilariza Racho-Baldovino

Based     on the recommendations of the University Council for Research (URC), the University President has approved  the appointment of  Atty. Pilariza Racho-Baldovino as Editor-in-Chief  of the Mindanao Law  Journal for a 3-year term, effective this school year until 2014.

The Council expresses its gratitude to Atty. Baldovino for  the services she has rendered  in the past, Associate Editor ( August, 2007 ) and  Editor ( August 2010 )  and for accepting the new assignment.

Composition of the University Research & Publication Committee

Please be informed that the following comprises the University Research & Publication Committee for the school year (2011-2012). The URPC  is a standing committee of the URC and shall assist the URC in the formulation of relevant policies concerning research and publication.  For this school year it is specifically  tasked to formulate the University Publication Guidelines.

Call for Proposals (SY 2011-2012)

The University Research Council is now accepting research proposals for funding support for SY 2011-2012.

All full-time faculty members, administrators and regular members of the non-teaching personnel are invited to submit a research proposal for review and approval of the University Research Council.  Please refer to attached document for details.

Amendment of Sec. 3.8 of the University Research Manual

Based     on the recommendations of the University Council for Research (URC), the University President has approved last July 25, 2011 the amendment of Sec. 3.8 of the University Research Manual (Allocation of Management Fee/Overhead Cost of Research Projects).

The new policy stipulates that, “All externally contracted/commissioned researches shall pay the University a management fee/overhead cost in the amount corresponding to ten per cent of the over-all project cost.  The three per cent share of the former Research and Publication Office from the referred management fee/overhead cost shall be reverted to the initiating Division/Program/Office. Thereby increasing the share of said offices to five per cent. The other five per cent shall remain with the general fund of the University. Should the University Publication Office (UPO) conduct research, its share is to be reverted to URC and shall be held in trust in a separate account and shall be disposed subject to the guidelines jointly formulated by URC and UPO.”

This new policy is held effective July 19, 2011 (the date when the University Research and Publication Office was converted into the University Publication Office) until repealed.

Ateneo Migration Center (AMC)

Based     on the recommendations of the University Council for Research (URC), the University President has approved the designation of Ms. Lourdesita Sobrevega-Chan to serve as Director of the Ateneo Migration Center (AMC).  She shall serve in such capacity effective immediately until March, 2012.

Tropical Institute for Climate Studies (TropICS)

Based     on the recommendations of the University Council for Research (URC), the University President has approved the establishment of the Tropical Institute for Climate Studies (TropICS). The  Institute will develop data bank of all  climate related  studies in relation to biodiversity, agriculture and food, water, energy, health and sanitation and disaster and migration. It will likewise seek to develop among communities in the tropics resiliency to the effects of changing climate, ensuring the mentioned concerns  including settlement and security.  The Institute will utilize the three-fold function of the University in meeting its desired objectives.

The TropICS, attached to the Natural Science and  Mathematics Division (SRTDO) shall operate effective immediately.

Ateneo Migration Center (AMC)

Based     on the recommendations of the University Council for Research (URC), the University President has approved the establishment of the Ateneo Migration Center (AMC).  The Center will make use of the three-fold function of the University in its aim to arrive at ecologically sound, gender responsive & culturally sensitive responses to migration concerns. Informed by the rights-based framework, these responses will be pursued in a manner that is collaborative and participatory.

The AMC, attached to the Social Research, Training and Development Office (SRTDO) shall operate effective immediately.

University Publication Office

Based     on the recommendations of the University Council for Research (URC), the University President has approved that the University Research and Publication Office (RPO) be transformed into the University  Publication Office.  The operation of the  UNIVERSITY PUBLICATION OFFICE  shall  be effective immediately.
